During a total solar eclipse it is possible to see things that ordinarily would not be visible due to the brightness of the light coming from the sun. This includes any planet or other stars in the vicinity of the sun. It also includes the energetic bands surrounding the sun. In this image a sliver of the moon can be seen just before total eclipse. The traces of the energetic bands are also visible.
